Born as a spin-off from the National University of Singapore, we are on a mission to deliver sustainable, science-driven solutions for a healthier world. Our team of leading scientists and innovators works at the intersection of synthetic biology, precision biomanufacturing, and green technology.
We are a team of passionate scientists with a shared vision: to deliver scalable, sustainable, and science-driven solutions for the world’s most pressing health and environmental challenges. Drawing on deep expertise in engineering biology, bioprocess engineering, and green technology, we combine innovation with impact—creating high-value bioproducts that make a difference.

Singapore’s National Synthetic Biology R&D Programme commissions Research to develop a Synthetic Cannabinoid Biology Programme to deliver life-saving cannabinoids-based therapeutics in a sustainable manner.
Synthetic Cannabinoid Biology: Repurposing Nature for Tomorrow’s Therapeutics led by Associate Professor Yew Wen Shan from NUS SynCTI.

Prof Yew’s research results in the development of proprietary GRAS yeast strains that biomanufacture High-Grade Cannabinoids (HGCs).
He is the first to discover novel enzymatic ways to produce HGCs including market-leading HGCs such as CBD, THC, CBGA and CBC; and potentially market-disruptive HGCs such as CBE, CBT and CBL.

wenSymes Pte Ltd, a Spin-off company of NUS, is formed. Focusing on sustainable solutions for planetary health, wenSymes hold key patents on cannabinoid bioproduction in yeast, production of D-lysergic acid in yeast, and sustainable solutions in food and lifestyle products biomanufacturing using enzymes.
