Dr. Albert Bo Xue is an accomplished structural biologist and scientific innovator with deep expertise in protein engineering, enzyme design, and sustainable biomanufacturing. As Head of Structural Biology at wenSymes, he leads the discovery, characterization, and optimization of novel enzymes that power the company’s next-generation biomanufacturing platforms.
With a career spanning both academia and industry, Dr. Xue brings extensive experience in structure-guided protein engineering, biocatalyst development, and molecular design. He is the co-inventor of multiple patents in sustainable biomanufacturing and structural biology, and has published more than 30 peer-reviewed scientific papers.
Dr. Xue earned his Ph.D. in Biochemical Engineering from Tianjin University, China, and received advanced training in protein X-ray crystallography at the Biomedical Centre of Uppsala University, Sweden. He currently holds a joint appointment as a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS). Within NUS, he also serves as a Principal Investigator at the Synthetic Biology for Clinical and Technological Innovation (SynCTI) programme and Research Cluster Lead at the Wilmar–NUS Corporate Laboratory.
Throughout his career, Dr. Xue has led major research and industry collaborations with partners including Wilmar International, HH Chemicals, Natural Trace, and Singer Instruments. His work focuses on understanding enzyme structure–function relationships and translating these insights into high-performance biological solutions for pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, and sustainable materials.
