Wen Shan Yew is a leading researcher and innovator in synthetic biology, with expertise spanning sustainable cannabinoid biomanufacturing, alkaloid active pharmaceutical ingredient bioproduction, and industrial enzymes. He is the co-inventor of multiple patents and currently leads the Singapore National Synthetic Biology R&D Programme in Synthetic Cannabinoid Biology.
As Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Biochemistry at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, he plays a key role in advancing research and innovation at the intersection of synthetic biology, biotechnology, and translational science. Through his leadership positions across several national research initiatives and laboratories, he contributes to the development of technologies that bridge fundamental scientific discovery with real-world applications.
